Theoretically you should be able to use SMB sharing instead of xstream/relax/VPC (you'll need the latest release of XBMP though - that would be 2.3). OS X has SMB/Windows File Sharing built in so you just have to follow the instructions provided on the apple support page for setting it up. I still haven't gotten it working though, but maybe you can. XBMP 2.2 + has instructions for setting up your config.xml for SMB sharing, but it's not that detailed, and a lot of people on non-windows systems are having issues setting it up as well. But I figure the more people using linux/unix/OSX and SMB for XBMP the higher a priority it'll get with the XBMP dev team.

I have my mac using osx, 2 windows xp machines, and xbox on my home network. I have gotten the media player to stream files off of both xp machines but i can't get it to see the samba shares on the mac. I'm not using the standard samba sharing included with jaguar. I downloaded SambaShare and used that to configure the mac network. It is a weird problem because both XP machines see the mac shares and can connect to them but the media player won't. Good luck, i'll keep you posted if i can figure it out.
