Xbmp 2.2 As Dash Replacement
« on: January 31, 2003, 08:42:00 PM »

It's getting VEEERRY close to becoming the ultimate dash in my humble opinion.  Nexgen is pretty but XBMP2 is far more functional.  Auto-add is already in and working for My Programs and emulation.  They really just need to add a My Games to the main page but it doesn't appear to be something that they want to do.

You could technically use it as your dash now, and simply drop to evox when you need to FTP.  The only real problem with this right now is that you would lose the internet time-synching until they add support for it into XMBP.

What's wrong with using notepad for editing the config.xml?  Everything in it is pretty self explanatory.

Don't forget to grab the latest CVS.  It's really unbelievable how much work they get done each day.

I agree 100%.

XBPM is getting better by the day. I think XBMP is THE reason to buy a Xbox!

You could also use xbox ftp, instead of evox for your ftp needs... (Install an ftp server, not an entire dash to use with your new xbmp dashboard!)

Name the xbmp file to evoxdash.xbe.  Put it in your C drive.  Rename your evox file to something like evoxdashbackup.xbe.  Copy XBOX Media Player.cut to your C drive.  Edit it so that it points to your default.xbe in your actual Media Player directory.  Edit your config.xml so that your dashboard points to evoxdashbackup.xbe.

This is how I'm running it and it works great.  Starts in XBMP, everything runs great.  When I need FTP, I move to that reboot button below settings on the main screen, hit it, and it takes me to EvoX because I have that set as my dashboard.  When I'm done FTP'ing I hit Reboot in EvoX and it takes me back to XBMP with a reboot since its my default dash.

Thanks,

Newer versions of XBMP include a file called "XBOX Media Player.cut".  Cut stands for shortcut.  Edit that file so that the path inside of it points to the directory that you keep your xbox media player in.  Place your edited version of the file in the root of your C drive.

Hello,

I have been playing around with XBMP 2.2 lately and really like it.  I saw in the users manual that it can be used as a dashboard replacement but was not sure that you can still ftp after setting it up as the default dash.  (I plan on linking to evox)

Yes I know this is alot of work as I am making icons and shortcuts for all items but it looks cool as hell and really makes the xbox like a media center from the inital boot up.

Has anyone done this?  Is there a tool yet to allow me to edit the config.xml for v2.2?  (I know there is for v1.x)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Can't tell you as it would be illegal smile.gif

Check the "usual places" IRC's Peer to peer sharing networks etc.

Right,

I got Xbmp as my dash.

How do I get back to my old dash, like I could in Evo-X?

The latest build before 2.3 and after include a FTP server. Checkout the filezilla.xml if your build has it. Thats the ftp configuration.

To get back to your old dash add a link or a bokmark to the dashboards xbe.
