Am running xbmp 2.2 (with fixed xbe) and have no problems whatsoever when watching divx/xvid movies either from the xbox HDD or from a burned ISO CD-R (the old Samsung drive, bless it) when the movie is cached.  I do however, get freezes every minute or so when attempting to watch it from the cd without having cached it first, but I guess that's a limitation of the DVD drive.  Doesn't really matter.

I haven't had any problems at all playing ANY media thru XBMP since v1.01.  No problems, have tried many files with many different codecs and all comes out rosy.  The new 4 disc svcd rip of The Two Towers is so sweet on the 'box.  Mp3 playback has always bombed on me for some reason tho.

the reasoning behind that is the fact that an *.avi has certain points in the file that need to be read throughout the movie.

What i mean is, when your watching a film at the beginning, the drive has to access data at the end of the file, thus you get drive access issues...

Im REALLY guessing that this is a software (XBMP) issue, NOT hardware.


And yes, i have the Samsung Drive as well, and it seems SUPER LOW BITRATE films donot stutter as much. All-in-all, if you cant wait 2-6 mins for caching, you obviously RAN OUTTA CHRONiC! -LoL

I've had the same problem with my v1.1 pc-bioxx modded samsung drive xbox.
But after trying XBMP 2.2 instead of 2.1 the problem seems to be gone.

So you might wanna try that ?

I have not had any stuttering playback issues at all.
Sometimes I'll get an AVI, MPG or DAT that does not playback correctly, at all, but that’s about it.
Compatibility seems to take 3 steps forward and one step back with each release.

I don’t think high bit rate AVI's specifically have issue.
Although the specific methods used to encode them could be causing the problems.

I recently encoded several super divx avi's using Gordian's Knot.
On average each movie comes out to about 1.5 - 1.8 gigs.
(Sometime more then I split the file into 1gig chunks)
They playback beautifully off the hard drive, 120gig WD, and stream flawlessly using Relax.

They will not playback at all off DVDR even though XBMP can display the files.
Unfortunately this is what I really wanted to do.
(Put 3 near DVD quality movie's on a single DVDR)

Hope still remains as XBMP is still a very young and
the folks working on the project are excellent.

I recommend encoding your own divx movies whenever possible using
Gordian's Knot to ensure the highest possible quality avi (not just resolution quality)
This is coming from someone who has used Flask, Virtual Dub, NanDub, Panaflex,
Bit rate calculators and a whole hard drive full of other utilties and HowTo's for years...
since Divx first hit the scene...
I have come close on my own but Gordian's Knot is the only way to fly right now
when encoding avi's... DivX3 ;-) ....not DivXpro...
Oh, and its sooooo easy to use.
