Xbmp 2.1 Looks Nicer, But Has Probs...
« on: January 04, 2003, 09:31:00 PM »

Just wanted to say that XBMP 2.1 looks nice, but seems to be buggier than XBMP Beta6... At first I reverted back to Beta 6, but then the lightbulb came on.

Why not have both installed!

I use XBMP Beta 6, then if that doesn't work, I try XBMP 2.1, then Yamp. They play together well...

Can't wait for XBMP future releases... Thanks to everyone working on it. This app makes the xbox the media center of my house! It is really worth modding your xbox just for this application alone!

Has anyone found a fix for XBMP2.1 and divx? Or long filenames with special characters?

Also, post your config.xml here for examples.  wink.gif

xbmp 2.1 is better than 2.0. i have a bug in 2.1, when i go to stream files from my pc, the screen (on the left side) of xbmp is blank. then i press B, and then i see the folders to the pc. strange. kinda annoying, although not a HUGE problem

I am running Beta 6 and 2.1 still... Before I launch the app, I have been deleting the E:\TDATA\ and E:\UDATA temp folder that XBMP creates. Supposedly you have to do this when switching versions, to make sure "no wires get crossed".

This has been working a little better for me, but I still have tons of problems with 2.1. Most MP3's are flakey, and almost all my divx movies have problems. (These are movies that I compiled myself with the divx5 codec and mp3 audio... They are perfect files, and play great on Beta 6.) Even some of the downloaded movies that I have tried don't work well... The movies start, but at some point it just exits back to the menu. Or it just freezes when trying to start the avi...

I still don't like the aesthetics of 2.1, but I wouldn't mind so much if it worked a little better... Can't complain too much though! It was free, and still in development...

Dirkbox, any way you can point me to that build? I will try and search for it later, but if can PM me a link that would be great.

Wow, would really like you to zip yours up for me so I can get the RMP and QT codecs... smile.gif

Any help on this would really be appreciated!

I was mispoken, sligthlyl. Here is the official word from the FAQ:

QUOTE
Q: Can I put two version of Xbox Media Player 2.x on the same Xbox™ (Hard Drive)?
A: No, different build levels of Xbox Media Player 2.x will conflict with each other & cause problems. (You can however have one copy of XBMP2.x + one copy of XBMP1.x + one copy of YAMP on the same Xbox™)

QUOTE
Q: I have changed to another build ver. of XBMP2.x & get some strange problems, what to do?
A: When changing XBMP2.x build level you need to delete the “0face007” folders under E:\UDATA & E:\TDATA on your Xbox™, this will restore XBMP2.x to it’s default settings which is needed. (if this do not help then you need to follow the normal bug reporting procedure)

QUOTE
What version are you running as I have no problems playing any media file now. This is using the new 1/5/03 CVS build, I have also added all the new codecs to it for RMP and QT.

Got 2.1 (CVS Build 1/10/03) last night. It was not pre-patched, so I had to run xbepatch to get it working, and the ini file was hosed, so I kept my old one. Other than those minor things, this new build works a lot better for me.

Find the latest build of XBMP2.1... It is worth it!

Same app... New features in 2.2 look excessive. I mean, dashboard mode? Will look for it and check it out.

Here is the where the confusion lies:
This team does not release "official" compiled releases. Instead, they let people download the source and compile it themselves...
That is why their is an XBMP build for every day of the year, practically...

Now the hard part is finding this new release! Hopefully someone will post it on a.b.c.i.x.

xbmp 2.2 doesn't work on my xbox. it freezes on the menu screen (applications, music, pictures, etc.). doesn't look too much different from xbmp 2.1.

Found xbmp 2.2 from a few different places... Will not load. Checked everything, did xbepatch, still nothing... From the looks of thing this release is not going over well, so will just wait for the next one and revert back to 2.1.

Has any one else played around with the SMB support.  Seems to be a little buggy.  When it works i works very nice.  I mapped it to my server where I store all my mp3's.  Sometime I can play 5 -6 songs no problems then it frezzes.  Doesn't seem to be related to the individual MP3's.  Looks like a bug.  Since this is their first release with this support I'm suprised it works this well.

All in all I like the direction they are headed.

I really don't think there is a fix for it right now.  If I figure out anything I will post it here first.

OK let me just pipe in....

I've had XBMP on my Xbox HD ever since Beta 5.  It was a little flaky at first, being a Beta and all.  But ever since v 1.0 onward, I have never had any problems with it. All my Divx encoded files play perfectly and even way better than on a well specced PC running the alpha release of the official divx player.  The image quality is nearly faultless, and  it got noticably better for me when v2.0 came out this christmas.   I'll have to get this new release and test it out.
