Xbmp2.1 Vcd?
« on: December 28, 2002, 02:46:00 PM »

Just wondering if they solved the VCD issues... can't tell from the blurb:

What's fixed:
* choppy playback
* some divx play in slowmotion
* add .divx extension to xbmp
* streaming subtitles didn't work
* subtitles from iso9660 don't work
* ISO9660 VCD's won't play. Video extension is .DAT
Huh? Does this mean it now works only on DAT files? Does it mean VCDs now work? This doesn't make much sense!!
* some divx give ticking sound with ac3 decoder
* preview window is a bit messy
* occasional dropped frames at long camera movements, happens at all resolutions
* position the subtitles on the bottom
* truetype fonts mess up the video window
* Certain Divx AVI Files have +-500MS A/V out of synch
* mp3s from iso9660 don't work
* timestep bug 00:08 and 00:09
* INFO/Pause on Remote doesn't work nicely
* ugly subtitle fonts
* fixed crash for video only files (no audio)
* fixed bug in libmpcodecs causing mp3lib to be used instead of ffmpeg mp3 codec
* now using xvid for divx5
* better bitrate calculation for avi files with & without index
* after playing mpeg1/2 screen is messy
* after 1:10 hours XBMP crashed
* xvid problems solved
* many other bugs

Looks like a lot of cool things have been done, but "true" VCD playback is a big on on my list before trying this out. I've got a Samsung-equipped Xbox with a virgin HD right now, and I'm waiting for a decent XBMP release before committing the Xbox to an alternate dashboard and homebrew software on the HD.

can't get it to play any of my original vcd's. it just says caching media for about a second and then drops out...

Bah! That's too bad.

I figure the Mode 2 stuff should be able to be overcome, since the Xbox already can do DAE from audio CDs (2352 byte sectors, same as Mode 2), so reading the MPEG1 data should be a simple matter once that hurtle is figured out.

Oh well... here's to looking forward to 2.2

CDR's though. Thats not XBMP's fault, thats the Xbox's dvd rom drives fault. If the Xbox cant read it neither can XBMP.  wink.gif

I thought someone had to write a driver to get the svcd to work from iso9660 from a standard svcd disc ???

Talking about vcds/svcds support for xbmp2.1, well i have a question here...

most of my vcds collection/ be it in original format or in *.mpg format after conversion, contains 1 audio stream with 2 different channels. Most of the time, one channel is english and the other may be french, or one is chinese, the other is english, or jap-english and so on.....

I have tried to go to settings in xbmp2.1, and well as i have guessed, it displays the file/vcd as having a single audio stream, no doubt that is correct, but i just wish that it could SWITCH between audio channels??? like my normal dvd players or even powerdvd can !....
any ideas?...
i am quite sure some of you have this problems?...
thanks

AFAIK iso9660 support is currently only for video.

It also cannot read mode 2 CDs (most VCDs/SVCDs are mode 2).

I have created mode 1 VCDs and these play with no problems at all.

I have also used RelaX to stream a mode 2 VCD from my PCs drive, also no problems.
