Tsop Troubles
« on: January 16, 2006, 07:50:00 AM »

This is my first tsop and i ran into a problem. I followd this pic here and split the tsop 2 ways. I then figured that since it was a 1.0 and it had a 1mb bios, i could flash it with two 512kb bioses. So i told evox to flash the bios, it erased the tsop, then said "Flashing bios now!!!" After about 20 minutes it did nothing, and i couldnt get out of the menu, so i had to turn it off. Now the xbox frags.

Now my two questions are:

1. How do i fix it?

and

2. What did I do wrong?

1.) If the whole TSOP did not get erased by Evox, you may be able to perform the three wire trick, which would let you boot from a good section of the TSOP, and flash it. How to do this is shown here.

2.) It's hard to say what went wrong with your Xbox. How far did the Evox progress bar travel before it froze?

If trying to boot from all four different BIOS banks still results in a FRAG, you would need to install a modchip to have a working Xbox again.

The whole idea behind adding the switch is that you SHOULD be able to switch from one bios to the other even if you had a bad flash.  This assumes that you DID try booting on both sides before flashing, right?

To be honest, I found that the tutorial you pointed to didn't work out for me.  With the switch in the grounded position, the xbox booted, but with it in the 3.3V position, it fragged even before I tried flashing.  I thought I miswired it, but after checking it out, it still fragged.  I then put the wire into a +5V point and voila, both sides booted fine and I proceeded to flash away.

I've done the same with 3 other 1.0 boxes and never had a problem with flashing.

My suggestion is to check the middle pin in both switch positions.  If the box boots in the ground position, you can reflash the bad part after you move the 3.3V to a 5V source.  If not, then the three wire boot trick may work.  Otherwise, its modchip time.

BTW, the flash time should be less than a minute and the process finishes almost immediately after the progress bar fills up the box.

Thanks for the reply. I tried using the switch and it didnt work. I checked, and i soldered everything correctly but i have no idea what when wrong. No two traces connected, or anything. Also, if the switch wasnt installed correctly, doesnt that mean that the whole 1mb tsop was seen and all of it was erased?
The flashing box came up, but nothing happened. After 20 minutes, i couldnt get out of the menu so i swallowed hard and turned off the xbox.

Your easiest fix would be to install a mod chip.  something cheap and reliable with all the features you need like a DuoX2
