Need Help With Mobo Swap
« on: April 05, 2005, 03:29:00 PM »

i hope im posting in the right erea

here is my question, i modded a freinds xbox a while back, he went and baught a brand new box, turned out to be a 1.6. so we swapped a mobo and power suply with a older  extra x-box i have. it was a 1.1.  he wanted it now, and he lost reciept. so this salution worked. his box is working awsome for half year now.

so here is my problem. i just went to assemble the 1.6 mobo and power supply into the 1.1 case. it all goes together nice. BUT, wont power on.

does any one have any idea??

has anyone else done this??

thanks. <

Yup, you shorted out the mobo.  You cannot put a 1.6 mobo in a case besides a 1.6 case because of the difference in the screw holes.  Find the one thats touching the mobo and dremel it out and hope that its not dead. <

Yeah the 1.6 mobo won't fit on a 1.0-1.5 case without some modificaton. Luckily most likely all you did was kill the transistor which can be replaced:

here is moer info on it:
http://downloads.ozxodus.com/Guides/Xbox_v...esurrection.pdf

you can get the part here:

Ok thanks.

i will have a look at the contacts points. i did notice there are some tabs on the bottom of the box, almost looks like they are ment to touch the mobo.

its just funny that the old mobo in the new case worked no problem.

There is a  screw that is missing is on the 1.6 board. The 1.0-1.5  board has a screw hole between the GPU and the video connector. The 1.6 does not so you need to remove the metal shielding where that screw normally goes. Also where the video connector goes on the back of the xbox there are 2 plastic screw holes (one on each side of the connector), sand them or cut them down since they are little to high
