Image.gif Causing Freeze On Boot

I tryed adding a background gif image to the Main Blade Background of the Game Tab and it looked like it might cause someone a epileptic seizure so I changed it to another *.gif image. After rebooting to apply some changes the system would lock up.

After booting using a boot cd I deleted the *.gif file and the system worked fine again.

What format is best for gif images?

some seem to work while others don't.

Any Ideas?
