Stop Tsop Flashing!

QUOTE (prime0196 @ Dec 17 2004, 10:27 AM)
I have been TSOP flashing for over a year and have successfully flashed over 120 xboxes.  I've flashed virtually every tsop (minus Sharp) and have encountered virtually every problem that you can experience (all but two successfully fixed)

With the release of the 1.6, TSOP flashing is no longer an option and telling your friends/clients to scour the pawn shops for older xboxes has gotten a bit out of hand.

Last night, I successfully modded a 1.6 with upgraded HDD using the UXE soft mod and I must say that in my opinion it's the best thing that's been released on xbox-scene in terms of modding.  It was easier than TSOP'ing and the ability to recover from your mistakes far outweighs that of TSOP'ing.

There is ABSOLUTELY no difference between my TSOP Flashed 1.0 and the Soft-Modded 1.6 in terms of features and functionality.  Both have upgraded HD, MXM Dashboard, MS Dash, Emulators, APPs, etc....

Not to ramble, but I was a TSOP loyalist but had to adapt to the changing times of modding.  So many people came to my house with brand new 1.6 boxes and I was forced to turn them away and I don't do modchips anymore, especially with the new xbox live banning techniques, plus I'm not that great at soldering sad.gif

Last but not least, the UXE soft mod works on ALL VERSION, ALL KERNELS 1.0-1.6.  Just someting to think about.

I like to do softmods, tsop flashes, and modchips.

I think that its a personal choice for all 3 they all have their advantages and disadvantes I think differnt method are better for differnt people in differnt situations.

I dont think softmods are better than tsop nor do I think they are any worse.

For me softmods on 1.6 are quick and easy and making a xboxhdm disk to fix any problem is a peice of cake (I will continue using them until they dont work anymore)  I also chip 1.6's  but ususally do more softmods on that version for people.

I personally have a x2.3lite in my 1.4 xbox and never had a problem and enjoy it to the  utmost smile.gif

The purpose of my post was to state my point was I dont think they are any better are worse so that the person that made the orignal post was saying that softmods are better and I disagreed.

Me personally I just dont like it when people think that __________ is what I do and everybody should do it because I say so and this is the only true and best  way period.

Fill in the blank with Chipping, softmodding, or Tsop flashing

That is why I made my post here
This also goes for TSOP flashes, chips, or softmods

I think its a preference thing I thought I was allowed to make my point just like you Johhny, Also yes I respect your opinion that you dont like softmods too

Also I make more money when I solder a chip than softmod for most of my friends softmods a free (actually sometimes chippping is too) tongue.gif

LOL!!! Go back to my day job.  Pretty funny.  Just because I prefer not to solder modchips doesn't mean I shouldn't be modding.  As a moderator you should know better than that, but I guess "moderating" in your day job, and you must fill your quota for "flaming posts" smile.gif  I initially posted this because they're are several ways to mod an xbox, until recently all I did was TSOP flashing.  This is no longer an option on the new boxes, so I was alerting other TSOP flashers to a great alternative.

Actually, with the proper tools, it is easier, safer and faster to fix a softmod then a bad chip (poor sodering, lifted traces, poor flashes), or tsop flash. Yes, to fix a bad softmod you need a backup of the xbox, big deal, but if you were smart and made it, even in the worst-case cenerio (your xbox HD caught on fire, sprouted wings and flew south with a motherboard named abit), you can recover from it in 5 mins.

I never tried a chip or tsop (1.6 box here), and you want your xbox modded in 5 mins and not wait 4~6 weeks for a chip, hell, softmod it.

also, along with the advancements of softmods, it is to a point that no matter what M$ throws at you, the softmod cant be destroyed (I am refering to the drive shadowing ability of nkpatcher).

The many reincarnations of the softmod are because of one reason, that being M$ finding the code. I don't trust softmods, I've come across many horror stories with the earlier ones. Code can be rewritten, overwritten and rewritten in an endless cycle of catchup. For peace of mind as a modder I do chip installs, just because I don't want the next wave of M$ attacks bringing in a wave of customers with broken xboxs.

Really kinda bothers me to see people making a business out of this. Modding for friends or doing it as a hobby is great. I don't object to people making money for this because you are working and you did take the time to learn the skills. I hope some of you that are running businesses are giving back to the scene as in donations. Think of it at least as an investment in your future. These people that are designing this stuff for free deserve to get something.

you wanna talk about a aprt that has a limited lifespan, how many of you actually belive that UXE will work on the next version of the MS dash? or that the next version of the MS kernel will allow the old dash to load, in a coupel months when the new version is distributed anyone who goes on Live or hits Live in a new game will get the update, then no more UXE and they come crying back you and you probably charge them more money to give them the next incarnation of the softmod....hell now that i think abou tit should start doing softmods, you make more money off people having to reinstall it ever 6 months or so

and all the time on these forums i see the guy who tried a softmod, and the first thing he did was unlock his HD (no eeprom backup) lemme see you fix that in 5 minutes

what bugs me is seeing poeple charging 100+ dollars for softmods, theres a few guys around here doing that, telling they are the only ones who know how to mod a 1.6 and even going so far as to say they install a chip when all they are doing is your 5 minute 0 dollar softmod, think about it, lets say you make 50 dollars an hour (thats on-site computer repair money there) then none of you should be charging more than $2.50 for a softmod that takes 5 minutes to do

and about the warranty, check the fine print any unauthorised alteration of the hardware OR SOFTWARE on the xbox voids the warranty, you just luck out if MS doesnt notice it

and to xokia/johnny, i do install chips and flash TSOPs, i do charge money, i dont give monetary donations to the scene, however i feel i repay my debt in other ways (helping people out, moderating the forums, etc)

Xokia: Donations come in the form of time. Alot of troubleshooting for modchips is done by the installers and the information is fowarded to the teams. I spend alot of freetime here on this forum helping out, plus I help on two other forums that usually take more of my time.

Members with join dates before '04 know about the softmod craze and how bad it got after a few games reverted the dashes. I've been lurking these forums since '02 so I know join dates don't mean that much, but take the advice of some sage minds and be cautious of the softmods.

Softmod = Hare
Modchip/TSOP Flash = Tortoise

Softmodding came along and it's suddenly "Wooohooo!  F**k you modders!  I don't need a chip!  I don't need a chip!  I don't nee-CRUNNNNCH!
dashupdate.xbe comes along and steamrollers over the softmods.  Anyone who's paid for such a mod goes through the roof, whilst the hardware/firmware modders just sit back with our beer and popcorn and watch the show!
