Evox New Hd Installer Not Working.
« on: August 07, 2004, 11:13:00 PM »

After successfully completing the 007 Raincoat flash, and the Xecuter 2 logo appears after bootup, I keep getting error 13 (Unable to load dashboard).  I installed a WD 120GB drive in a 1.4 Xbox.  It has NOT been formatted yet.  This I know is why it is unable to load the dash.  I've done several TSOP flashes, but ran across this problem in the last 2 times.  The first time, I had to open my xbox and setup the HD.  This time that won't even work.  My box will not run the HD installer (EVOX).  Green flashing light and error 13.  Now I am beginning to think it is the HD, but it is brand new.  I had a dashboard setup on one of the stock HDs from the XBOX and connected it and it worked fine.  I just can't get this 120 WD to work.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I used the _06 and _67 of the 4983.  Also tried the 4980_06 and _67.  Still not working.  Created new discs thinking maybe it was having one of its days... I also used a Samsung drive instead of the Thompson that was in it, since I know they read almost anything.  Still nothing.  I'm stumped here and need help badly.

All help is greatly appreciated!  I've been helping lots of people on here get started, now I am having problems my self and need a professional's advice  :D

So basically you can't load an evox cd, right?  Are you sure you burnt it correctly by making an ISO file and burning the image?  Some people surgest a 'dummy' file, to take up space on the disc, as the xbox has trouble reading a small amount of data.

When running a dashboard from a cd it has to be called default.xbe can't be called evoxdash or anything else.  Can you pay real/backup games?   Which have you tried cdr/cdrw/dvd-r/dvd+r?

I hope these don't sound patronising but its all I could come up with, cos frankly I am a little stumped too!

The EVOX cd that I have is the same one I used successfully on the past 20 or so I've done.  As far as the dummy file, I do not have one of those on the ISO.

If I place the already setup HD in this unit, it works.  Its just not letting me run the CD.  Flashes Red/Green and gives error 13 when trying.  I place the same drive in my already flashed XBOX and it doesn't read it either.

I went ahead and formatted this same drive on my PC, and ran the Data Lifeguard tools diag on it and it worked fine.

And the other question regarding can I play backed up games, the answer is yes.  Just not letting me setup the HD for the first time on it.

Thanks,

Rob

Try setting your jumpers from cable select to Master or vise versa if it is already in master. Also you might have to make sure the time and date are set before installing the new hard drive as well. If Xbox is unplugged for a long time, the time and date get erased.

I did try the cable select to master as well.  Still would not recognize.  I'll try the time/date update and see what happen when I get it reflashed.  Now, the flash I added on it, it now boots up with the red/green and powers off and on.  So I'm off to the 29 wire trick.

Reflashed the new x2.3 chip in the new xbox using the hot swop method and using slayer evox installer

When I do xboxes, i flash chip or TSOP then put new HDD in, and insert NewHDEvox1.4 disc (on Verbatim cd-rw).  Then just power up (sometimes takes up to 5 reboots with power button) for xbox to recognize the disc.  You could always swap the dvd drive in the xbox for a known good one (if you have say a samsung in one of your boxes)

I am using the samsung drive from mine but no joy

Is HDEvox1.4 disc different to Evox 2.5 installer if so were is it avalible from

As for media i find that if you use a dvd disc called Goallover (bought at a computer fair in milton keyes and Hatfied) they seem to work with all drives.

thanks for the tip

boot up the xbox with a backed up game in it i used driver3 when it loads eject the disc and insert slayers evox installer

power off

power on

and guess what you get the installer disk to load

reflash chip and tsop, format hard drive, set up new programs etc and all the other stuff

reboot
