It will be most used with Linux.  As far as Surreal64 emulation using 128mb ram.  I'm trying to explain the best way possible how the memory works.  If a game is emulated bad, memory probably wont speed it up.  The game just isn't gonna be fast if it isn't emulated properly.  If a game is working but with multiplayer etc runs slower, then memory MAY help.  I can check 007 and let you know what speed I'm running it at.

Im stuck!

I have recently put in the 4 extra samsung chips, although there was a short first time i booted, i fixed this and booted again.

This time my machine boots up straight into xdk launcher, and when i use media player or unleashx, each says i have only 64mb of ram!

This is really doing my head in as i cant think of why it would do this, i know my bios is supposed to be supported (TATX DEBUG DUAL) and obviously there isnt a short or a would get the bios error.

Here is what im running,

TSOP flashed with TATX Debug Dual, this worked prior to ram upgrade, and still works fine now.

  V1.0 Mobo

I know the drives dont make a difference but i have a western digital 80gig HD Locked and a samsung dvd rom.

I got the chips from a spare mobo i had, they worked fine before removal.

To remove them i used solder braid and a 30 watt soldering iron, i followed the Video Tut by KingViper.  I DID THIS VERY CAREFULLY.

On xboxhacker.net forums, they say they used a complex debug bios to use the extra ram.  I was told on these forums that the complex bios wouldnt work and that i should reflash to TATX.

Any upgraders come accross this problem?

But hey at least i can still use this sucker in the mean time!

QUOTE (importplayer @ Feb 27 2004, 10:26 PM)
I am thinking of getting a 128 RAM upgrade mainly for MAME.  Does anyone have any good thing to say about MAME and a 128 RAM Xbox?

The extra RAM helps MAME load the games, so more of them work.  Just be aware that some games are still limited by the processor speed, and although they will now load, they run very slowly/jolty.

Dont forget to try other emulators which offer virtual memory - if the particular games you want to play will run on them you wont need to upgrade the RAM!

I'm not trying to discourage doing the upgrade, but it is a lot of effort with little reward (depending on what you do with you xbox of course)

i've done the 128 ram upgrade yesterday took me and my friend 7 hours to remove the chips from a dead xbox and to install them.took us a longtime cuz we had a few shorts that was very hard to spot but finally we got it to work.im very happy with my xbox ,but i tested only surreal and got perfect dark framerate up which was cool .hopefully more authors of homegrew apps and emus will incorporate the option for 128 ram in there program.

biggrin.gif I dont see the point the xbox games are meant to be run on the ram you have.

I would not notice any difference at all. MY xbox runs fast enough !

For anyone looking for the chips, I have found a realy good supplier through
Samsung.  They ship FAST and the chips run about $8.50 each.
Order Here

The part number is the same(except date code, later MFG), but the chips arrived and work quite well.  The QC50000 is just a mis-typed QC50, so dont worry.

Anyone interested in purchasing the memory upgrade I ordered from Viper (when it arrives)? I no longer need it. I will also include a 5th chip (from my previous attempt).

KingViper did my upgrade to 128 and it works great.  Linux doesn't lag near as bad and mame runs alot more of the games.  Not only all that but 128 meg upgrade is bragging rights.  Saves and such also do run quicker.
