A Note On Samsung 605 Prices
« on: February 17, 2004, 12:46:00 AM »

Just a little thought about Samsung 605 drive prices:
Some of the sellers here should maybe lower the prices a tad bit on the samsung 605 dvd drive. I mean selling a samsung dvd drive for about a $100 u.s. is kinda a tad bit too high don't you think?  ohmy.gif  Especially since you can get a fairly good second hand xbox for that price. Also all the new xboxs in store have samsung dvd drives now.

Alternative solution:
You can buy a old second hand xbox (unmodded) with even a lame thompson drive (for $100 u.s. if u look around on ebay) and add a second pc dvd rom to your first xbox and use the one u just bought to play originals only. Hence u will have two xboxs now, one that plays originals and the other that only plays copies. All this would cost you just a tad bit over 100 u.s. dollars if you already have a pc dvdrom lying around, or about $130 if you buy a pc dvdrom. See, how easy it is.  rolleyes.gif

So, next time someone wants to buy or sell a samsung dvd drive... think about it first.  dry.gif  Its not worth as much as you think. If you want to run every media on your xbox including cdrs (and absolutely MUST do this), just do whats mentioned above because unless people lower their ghastly prices on something as simple as a drive you are truly better off getting a second hand xbox and getting your hands dirty. If you have ever opened a pc (and I am sure even the noobiest of noobs have) swapping dvd drives, or adding second dvd drives is easy easy work. If you are still not sure then just use the tutorials here at xbox-scene.
In the end it really comes down to this:
1) spend a little bit more and end up with two xboxes or
2) buy a drive that costs as much as a second hand xbox.
If I were a buyer (and I might be) and the prices for the samsung 605 stayed this high, I'd just get another second hand xbox as this also increases the future reliability. (if one goes bad, you still have another one to play on)

*This was just my thought on the subject. No offense was intended to anyone*

Samsung drives are worth as much as people in the scene are paying. No more, no less. So as long as people are paying $100+ USD for a Samsung 605, then the sellers will sell them accordingly. The price will not go down until people stop paying that much. Are you asking them to lower the price so you can get one cheap? laugh.gif

if you dont want to pay what people are asking, why dont you go take your chances, buy a xbox and take it apart, if your lucky keep the samsung, sell the rest and stop your arrogant crying? and if you cant afford to do that either then buy a tompson and stfu.

It's simple Economics.  Supply and Demand...As long as the drive is in this demand, the price will stay at $100.  Once the XBox price drop occurs, this obviously will change.  Not too complicated.

An item is worth what people are willing to pay for it. People aren't getting ripped if they chose to pay a high price for a samsung drive.

Isn't it nice to see someone express their opinion without screaming profanities and cutting someone else down. blink.gif

and second
NOOB
you just said.. all new xbox's have them.. then you said.. buy  a used one for the same price you could get  a sammy (highly HIGHLY unlikely.) ive never found a used xbox especially off the scene with a sammy nor on ebay.

sigh.

If you don't like the price's do't buy

do you realize it cost's ford maybe 1500 $'s to make a car?

why don't you go do someting usefull and picket there dealer ship's?

I would like to point out I recieved a broken Xbox, NEVER opened, seals intact, manufacture date was in January of 2003, and was a refurbished version 1.0 with a thomson, there are factory refurbs out there floating around.

This is way off topic regardless I got A Samsung selling it on the bay as well as parting out my 1.5. Why because I got a modded one so have no need for that and might as well make a extra few bucks cause can only afford so much Paps Blue Ribbons on weekly college money. Also have a samsung in my modded and may sell that cause I have no need for a sammy I only play DVD-R.

Ford 1500. That goes to show the only way to drive is in a Jeep  ohmy.gif . Too bad my wrangler got smashed up last week and is out of commsion for 4 weeks. Always got the Cherokee though. Im just rambling on really Im in investments class and note to ALL Buy Stock in Linux. Its on the rise

well it kinda started the rumour that samsung plays better and read better on media ( it does) especially  cd-r/rw. The fact is I got both V 1.2 with samsung and I have no special need for it. I play dvd-r and if the game size is way too big to backup on dvd-r, I play from my 160G Hdd. Besides, how many xbox games that have the size fit into a cd? Since I can't watch vcd, svcd with my xbox, it doesn't matter i have samsung drive or not. A friend of mine has samsung drive and recently the guy lost the job and playing game day and night and finally his samsung gives disc error frequently. He didn't put chip in his system though. wait and see what happen when a new batch of xbox all use samsung drive.

Yep, I got one too...Bought it in November 2002 and the Thompson drive died in July 2003.  I am more than happy with my Sammy 616t now though.

I wouldnt quite say that myself. But id happily trade my samsung for a brand new philips (old model). Samsungs are way over rated. Id sooner have a drive that reads DVD-R and DVD+R, than a drive that can only read DVD-r just for the sake of reading CD-R.
