Hi

My first modded Hdd was a Seagate 120

But since progressing to having 4 xboxes in the house now I have added x3
300gig maxtors to them with the old 120 still in service in my workshop for test purposes.

Hey guys,

Im reading all this and it seems you can use any size HD? I see reference that you can only use up to a 137GB drive? Is this untrue? I have a v1.3 XBOX and will be putting in a new XBIT this week. I would like to put in a 250GB (but had thought I could only use a 120GB due to the limitations). Will this work? And any good ref sites to make sure to get a drive that works well?

You can use any size hard drive, you will just have to reconfigure some files to run a hard drive larger than 137gb. Not that hard and you can use your 250gb hard drive as a 137gb until you figure out how to access the extra space. As for the best brand, there are several lists on this forum, "lockability" will determine whether you can play on MSLive or not, but even if a drive isn't lockable, you can use it with a hacked dash.

all you need is a bios that support >137gigs, i believe you can put up to 2.1 terrabytes or something in em now with updated bios

I'm still using the WD 8gb hard drive that came with the xbox.I have 2 games on it and some apps with some room left over but i am in need of a bigger HD.

I assume you mean 80-->119, 120-->159 etc.
It isn't clear where, for example, a 160GB fits with your current ranges.

Wasn't there a poll on this a week or two ago? Anyways, I have a 160GB Maxtor Ultra ATA 133. It's a pretty sweet drive.
