X2 4977 On 1.4 (focus) = Dead Machine
« on: April 06, 2004, 06:16:00 AM »

i have a 1.4 machine with the focus chipset/st bios that has been accidently flashed with the x2 4977 bios. the machine isn't happy now so im in the 2 reset then frag situation.

i understand the only way to fix the tsop is to use a 29 wire chip or a matrix chip. i can purchase a 29 wire chip for £9 and a solderless matrix for £20.

which one would you recommend and can they both do the job. the tuts ive looked at are:

http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/matrix-fix-tsop.php
http://xbox-scene.com/articles/evox-tsop-matrix.php

i can't seem to find a "fix your dead tsop using the 29 wire chip" guide so some pointers for that one would be nice.

is it hard to solder/desolder the 29 wire chip as i would prefer to use the matrix as its a solderless option (soldering those 2 tiny points was bad enough).

any pointers would be appreciated - thanks  <

29 wire is the way to go

try looking a bit harder next time its all there for you if you look

http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/repair-tsop.php

also diagrams for the 1.4/1.5 are here if you get stuck looking for them

thanks for that. why do you prefer the 29 wire option? doesn't the matrix perform the same actions but with easier installation?

no idea never used matrix and if i rember with a 1.4/1.5 some points were missing from lpc port so extra wiring needed around there i think

i just find 29 wire  easy and works everytime for me

the matrix trick has many drawbacks, it wont work on a totally hosed TSOP (neds something to boot from on the TSOP)

also it doesnt work on 1.4/1.5s at all (the TSOP d.6 is based on d.6, so its incompatible)

and its never been confirmed to work on a 1.2/1.3  <

29 wire time it is then. The one im getting is an old extender chip. seeing as ive never installed a chip before id like to ensure im following the right guide:

http://www.xbox-scene.com/modchips/xtender_diagrams.html

which appears to be quite similar to the pic posted above (thanks). should i just follow the above picture? also, do i have to bridge the 2 points marked "we" in the aforementioned pic as i already have the 2 tsop points bridged anyway.

yes you need to bridge the we points on the bottom
also make sure the chip you use has got a valid 1.4/1.5 bios on it anything after 4977 i think should be ok

and once booted you will need to cut 2 wires(or use a switch) before you flash
as my first attepmt i forgot and flashed the repair chip   <
