Problem W/ V1.1 Split And Flashed
« on: March 31, 2004, 07:22:00 AM »

This just started happening last night.  I have a 1.1 with the TSOP split (switch from vcc 3.3v or Ground to A19)

This is the first one of many I've flashed...  Flashed w/ EVOX M7

Everything was working fine.  Switched to VCC and got the EVOX bios, Switched to Ground and get the stock bios.

Last night I turned off the box, switched to the stock bios, it frags...

Switch back to EVOX M7 boots just fine...

I hardly ever go into the stock bios... wonder what happened?

Any ideas?

Did you by chance unlock your hard drive anytime when you were in EvoX?

If so, you will need to lock it first before you can boot it with the original bios.

Nope, haven't made any changes that I can think of recently.

I'll double check the hard drive.  But the last time I fired up Config Magic is when I installed the drive (and the stock bios was working after)

Ok I checked...

The Hard dirve was locked... so that wasn't the problem.

Took the box apart... no problems with the solder joints.

What I did notice is that this being the first box I put a switch in, I had it connected to VCC +5.

Changed it to VCC +3.3 and it still didn't work (still fragging).

Grounded it works fine.  Boots with the EVOX Bios.  Can't get the original bios to boot at all.

I think being on +5 I might have burnt out the first half of the bios... think it's possible to just burn up half of it?

get a copy of 4817 (retail 1.1 BIOS) and boot into EvoX, flip switch to the fragging side and try reflashing it using EvoX... who knows maybe it got corrupt.

Not sure about burning half of it.

How about trying to reflash the original bios with an original bios?

you will have to find out which one you need of course.  But if you split it up, you can't hurt it.  But you have to know which one to use though.  Go do some research.

Or if you backed up your old one before you flashed it.  You can put that into xbtool and resize it down to 512k and then use it.

I tried flipping the switch and re flashing it... no go.  It would flash but wouldn't boot...

What I enede up doing is just getting rid of the switch, and hard soldering the A19 point to ground.

I figured with the HD scans I didn't need to worry about having the switch for Live.

looks like I'll get a 3rd box if I ever want to use Live.
