Stock Samsung Reads Dvd+r?
« on: February 11, 2004, 03:37:00 AM »

Well, my dad got a shitty NEC DVD+R in his new POS DELL.

And well, Ive come across a few new Philips drives that wont read anything...
So I decided to finally burn a DVD+R backup and try it on the Philips, it worked. I also figured what the hell, Ill try it in my Xbox. To see if my Samsung can read DVD+R... It worked just fine, if not loading faster!

What gives? Am I just lucky?
Please post if you have tried a DVD+R in a STOCK Samsung DVDROM

The samsung in my first xbox would read dvd+r just fine, but ive since sold that xbox and traded the drive off, ive yet to see if my new samsung will read them. But it is quite rare they read +r media so no doubt my new one wont read them.

Toggle the booktype from dvd+r to dvd-rom like nero does and a Samsung will load it. It has nothing to do with the brand of media but may be affected in the firmware of your +r burner with regards to how it handles booktypes.

The NEC ND1100A automatically sets the booktype bit for DVD+R to DVD-ROM. I have the same burner and the discs I write read fine in my samsung-drive and in my freinds thompson-drive. Every disc I have bruned has been able to play on every dvd-playr/xbox I've tested.

What version nero? I have Nero 6.3 and when I burn my ISO's I dont have the option of changing many settings other then write speed. If i go into compilation mode then I could go in and change settings take joilet off and so on. Just go into burning rom and click on recorder select burn image. Highlight your image and burn.

So how on earth is done then ?

Hippo and yourself seemed to imply it was done in nero but noone seems to be able to say how.

I just burned an iso with nero 6 and tried it in the Samsung, works no problem and I did not alter any settings for book type cos I cannot see any in Nero.
I thought you needed a program called DVD bitsetter to do this.
They work without all that anyway.
