From T3CH readme/nfo:
QUOTE
New Dashboard install method
Thanks to a new app called 'Team UIX's Xbe Shortcut Maker v1.0' by JbOnE, it's now extremely easy...
Edit XBMC\xboxmediacenter.xml to your liking & transfer contents of XBMC folder TO (this is VERY important) "E:\APPS\XBMC\". Rename <<RENAME_ME.xbe>> to something your bios can boot  (see http://manual.xboxmediacenter.de/wakka.php...BMCAsDash#h44-2 or read your BIOS README)  and transfer to your C partition. No need to fiddle with HOME tag anymore, and future upgrades you won't  need to worry about this file on C.

You can add more scripts and skins yourself if desired. You can download them from http://allxboxskins.com, http://www.xbox-skins.net and http://www.xbmcscripts.com.
Keep in mind this is a CVS snapshot of the current development tree. It's not a official (stable) point release. Use only if you know what you are doing.

T3CH I think you guys forgot to package "RENAME_ME.xbe" in this release.

For the benefit of other users ...

You can create your own shortcuts using Team UIX's Xbe Shortcut Maker v1.0 which you can download here

Cheers
Xan

PS Thanks for the new package.

This is so great...after the NSF additions I'd hoped you guys would start supporting other emulation rip codecs.  Just never expected to see more so soon.  Here's to hoping you can get a PSF/2 and GSF codec worked up in the future as I suppose hoping for XA and ADX support would be a bit much.   biggrin.gif

wow, that's great.
I hope that the password function for extracting RARs is already implemented.

Neither MPlayer nor Python Scripts have worked at all for me in the past 4 releases.

I'm erasing all files, erasing the game save, clearing the caches and FTPing the "official" CVS T3CH releases.

I can play video files by opening them with DVDPLAYER but MPLAYER doesn't work at all.  Steaming radio, MP3s, AVI files, MPGs, nothing.  And none of my scripts work where as they did previously.

I posted an official bug report, as well as posted on the XBMC forums and nothing.

I've seen other people post that they can't get video to work in newer releases, and I wonder how many people other than me are having this problem at all.

Does the weather display in the home page in this release? In the last release it doesn't.

No mplayer issue, that i am 99.9% sure of.

It plays all avi, vcd, svcd´s etc etc like it should on my end.

wmv´s have been a little buggy, but thats about it.

Saying that the files wont play is of no use, it´s like saying my car wont start.

There is way to much room for speculation: Is it the battery, the wireing, is there gas in the tank etc etc etc etc.

Be specific, post debug logs etc so we can start somewhere instead of going on a wild guessing rampage...

Hello all,
Seems to work well, but craps out on py scripts.

Observations:
1) rename_me.xbe missing (as was mentioned), grabbed it from the t3ch's 21st CVS build, and hexchanged it to point to f:\apps\xbmc (where I have it). No problem.

2) The last XBMC ver I was using was from May 13thCVS by ekb. Dissapointed to see that the option to not allow picture caching is now gone. I have folders with MANY pictures, and it's a bit of a pain to wait for them all to cache before viewing them. Any chance this can be turned off somewhere? I guess I'll have to dig through the prefs...

3) Had a problem with changing the default RSS feed (was getting 10061 errors in the log - ie connection refused). Strangely, changing the DNS server to something else fixed it (I was pointing it to my router - which works fine for my main computer).

4) Problem with the XBMC script installer. Any time I try to install a script, it'll download properly but will crash upon the "Installation" step. Happens no matter what script I try. Have to powercycle. Here's the relevant log:

Everything before that is "normal". Manually installed scripts don't seem to run either. Tried running Ooba (which is the only one I bothered installing manually), but it wouldn't run at all.

Hmm. Considering moving back to the 21st CVS to see if things are broken this time around.

Anyone else getting this?
BTW, I never "upgrade" XBMC installs. I always delete everything and install from scratch.

Oh, and btw, all my media files play absolutely fine so far (xvid, divx, wmv, ogm, mpg, mp3, jpg, bmps, gifs). I'm grabbing 100% of them off an smb share. Picture media threw me off though, I thought they weren't working, but it was just that XBMC was busy caching thumbnails of everything first... (see above).

The rename_me.xbe is a shortcut executable. You rename it to whatever xbe you boot off from (for me, that's evoxdash.xbe), and stick it in your C:\ drive. This will reroute the boot xbe to your E:\Apps\XBMC\default.xbe (unless you change it like how I mentioned above).

This way, you no longer have to copy over the xbmc executable and XboxMediaCenter.xml files to your C:\ drive every time you upgrade xbmc. It's all in the text files.

has the vobsub issues been resolved with this cvs?

There are a few vobsub files that up until 21-09-05 cvs I'm still having problem displaying them.

Update:
Scripts _are_ working. However, some no longer seem to work properly.
I think the Fatal exception errors are happening when XBMC tries to unpack the zip files it downloads from xbmcscripts.com. Downloading seems to happen fine (the files are downloaded in q:\scripts\httpcache along with the log file - I can post it up, but it doesn't have any errors in it), but it crashes upon trying to unzip/install the file.

However, scripts ARE working. PIL (Python Imaging Library - www.xbmcscripts.com/index.php?option=com_simplefaq&func=display&Itemid=40&catid=26&page=1#FAQ6) is NOT installed on this build, which is why Ooba and many other scripts won't run.
Also, the BBC_News script points to some bizzaro Top40 music chart (instead of BBC) instead of BBC News (!). Classic case of XBMC being blamed for script problems...

Either way though, there is still a problem with the crashing, but at the very least the scripts running problem is "solved".
