Flash V. 1.3 With 4981
« on: February 19, 2004, 12:20:00 AM »

My current bios is x2 4977. I wanna flash it to 4981. My xbox version is 1.3. What size shall the bios be on. 256, 512 or 1024. Shall I just put it in c:\bios and flash from evoX? Is it anything else I should be aware of? Please help.  <

256K BIOS.  NOT a BFM one!

You can do.  EvolutionX will probably need a reboot before it spots the file, though.

Yes.  EvolutionX occasionally freezes when flashing.  If it does, it's likely to be modchip time (LPC mod to get you working or 29-wire mod to fix the TSOP).

Please help.
Just have. :D

What happens if I use a 512 bios or 1024 bios? Will I ruin my xbox or will evox tell me I have the wrong size. What do you mean by "Not a BFM one". What does BFM mean? I'm a n00b. Thanks...  <

BFM, is Boot From Media (ie. your DVD drive).  DO NOT USE A BFM BIOS.  If you are using evolutionx to flash your bios it will resize the bios to the correct size for your chip.  So like you said drop your bios into c:\bios and reboot.   Then use the flash option in your menu. The only problem (realistically) you could come across is a winbond TSOP chip, as evolutionX will not flash them.

Hi again
When I had put my bios file in c:\bios and I choose Flash Bios in evox this message appears:

Manufacturers ID 09 Device ID 00
!! Unknown Flash Type !!

What the heck does this mean. I have tried four different bioses.

1. 4981 256 kb
2. 4981 1024 kb
3. 4977 256 kb
4. 4979 256 kb

It wont flash. What is the problem. I really wanna flash my bios.   <

I found out that my chip is: Winbond W49F020. Is that the reason I can't flash it in evox? Do I have to use raincoat?  <

Winbond chips can not be flashed with evox, you need raincoat.  The eurasia flash,  or highway flash pack make it really easy and you don't need to telnet.  <
