Why Is This Word Censored In Filenames?
« on: April 05, 2005, 12:14:00 PM »

I have every episode of Family Guy backed up to my xbox for xbmc.

I noticed that when stacking is activated, episode 41's name disappears.
here's what it's named as

40 - to love and die in dixie.avi
41 - screwed the pooch.avi
42 - peter griffin hfb.avi

when stacking is enabled this is what it looks like.

40 - to love and die in dixie
41
42 - peter griffin hfb

I renamed episode 41 to the pooch and stacking shows it like this now.

40 - to love and die in dixie
41 - the pooch
42 - peter griffin hfb

now to confirm that said word is causing issues and not the file itself. I renamed episode 40.
40 - screwed to love.avi
41 - screwed the pooch.avi
42 - peter griffin hfb.avi

simple stacking

40
41
42 - peter griffin hfb

is there a way to take this off. I can also confirm that this is the only word that causes this issue cause I also tried some more offending words than this and simple stacking showed them fine.

also this worked fine in simple stacking.
41 - the screwed pooch.

but that is not the episode title. smile.gif

is this word censored or it merely a weird bug?

noticed this since the 11-30 release and all cvs released and official releases.

wtf?

50 GB is (approx) 50 000 MB

an episode of family guy is what 20 - 25 mins?

what format exactly would use 50 GB of space for 25 mins of video?

LOL oops. laugh.gif

i sincerely apologise. not to make excuses or anything but i read that in a hurry and i really got that the completely wrong way around.

talk about being embarrased now. unsure.gif

P.S it would take up less than 10 GB.

actually all of you should read. avi usually means compressed or uncompressed. if i had backed up the dvds straight, the filenames would end in .vob so in this case it's compressed avi. or mp4 to be more specific.

sorry. i should have been been more thorough.

they are all divx/xvid. each episode is 140megs. I backed up the vobs and compressed them from every disk.
so a total of 7.06 gigs.

i didn't think it was important since my question asked was about the filename.

[total ass]
actually each episode was 1 vob which is 1 gig. so yeah 50gigs if straight backed up.

I'm not being an ass. I'm just pointing to the other people criticizing about reading a thread. when in actuality they haven't read it themselves to begin with. if you wheren't the one that made that mistake than don't take it in offense.

the only one I'll apologize too is [total ass] because he apologized to me.

when i was talking about less than 10 gb i was referring to compressed avi smile.gif

VOB is such a sloppy format.

about the censoring thing, that's weird, i've never known of any censoring in xbmc, (mainly because the majority of people who use media playback only watch one particular genre of videos blink.gif ) but obviously i was wrong.

Nice find.

It's because of 2 things:

1.  You have a dash followed by a space.

2.  This is then followed by the letters SCR.

XBMC "cleans" the filenames when in stacking mode.  There is a list of stuff it cleans off - you can find it in settings.xml in the E:\TDATA\0face008 directory.

Perhaps you'd like to add it to the online manual?

manual.xboxmediacenter.de

I suggest a question in the trouble shooting section, along with a link to the answer, plus a detailed explanation of how to fix it once you've figured it out.\

Cheers,
Jonathan
