D'oh! I Screwed A V1.5 Tsop Flash
« on: January 22, 2004, 06:07:00 PM »

Well, I've modded around 25 boxes now, so I'm not really a nOOb, and 1 screw up in 25 ain't bad, I guess... More often than not I know what I'm doing, but something here went amis.  I plan on picking up a newer X2 chip so I can reflash the TSOP (unless there's another way...feel free to offer suggestions), but I do intend to eventually flash the TSOP on this xbox and get it working again without the chip.

Anyhoo... This was my first attempt at a Winbond flash using raincoat.  It's v1.5 (with the focus chip). I had already audio-exploited it (with a x4979.06) and installed a 250GB drive, and it had been working fine.

I soldered the 2 points on top of the mobo.  Transfered all the raincoat .501 stuff over into a Mechassault Savegame exploit, including a 256k x4977 bios.bin. (which I used xbtool to make it a 256k x4977.06)

Ran Mechssaullt, launched raincoat. LED turned orange, sounds played. connected via telnet.  I ran the commands to flash the chip, it said it detected, erased, flashed and verified fine.  I rebooted and all I get is FRAG. (no screen).

You can see a screenshot of the telnet window here:

So, where did I go wrong?

For your help, here's a funny video.  Well, it's funny if you ever watched GI Joe and remember the little public service announcements at the end of the episodes.

(I'll probably post links to some other GI Joe clips in the comedy forum...)  <

Well, it sounds like you did everything correct.  It must have just been a bad flash.  Good luck on reflashing it :) .  <

A 1.5 uses the new focus video encoder.

Unfortunatly you flashed your TSOP with 4977 which did not support the new video encoder. (i believe it was added in 4979)

Exactly what he said... after 25 XBOXes... you should have known that  ;)

1.5 and 4977 = NO GO !

Easy to fix though...  <

Excellent.  (and a big D'oh!) That's what I was afraid of.

I wish I'd seen that in the tutorial.  (not that it wasn't there, I was just too drunk to read that much..)

Most of the mods I've done were chip installs (only a handfull of TSOP flashes and exploits) and none were ever a v1.5.  I'm glad I learned my lesson.

Thanks all.
