I think an embedded might work okay.  I don't know about Windows XP but maybe 98 or 2000.  As for the speed of computers, I had a Toshiba Satellite notebook p2-450 128meg ram that actually ran XP rather quick, and a Compaq Armada P3-600 128meg ram and it was probably about 30 seconds from post till desktop since I only had one user it didn't have to log on.  Running on battery ran a lot slower however.  Never say Never.

if you are running xp maybe. an embedded version will work fine. think about it. it runs on PDA's with a 233mhz processor, and 16mb ram. it HAS to work fine on an xbox, if you can get it coded properally.

any problems will be software related, not hardware

yes, but the thing I find to be the most ignorant about that post, is the fact that he's requesting a 64-bit OS for a 32-bit architecture...

what next... someone trying to 'enable' HT on their Xbox processor.

still, XP embedded would be the lightest flavour of windows to use, although, if a fully-fledged version of windows were ported, perhaps this could open the doors for the server flavours (although some serious cut-downs would be necessary) but it would certainly be an amusement to see an Xbox serving Active Directory.

If you wanted to have WIndows XP only on your XBOX and not play any games, then I am sure that you could reformat the hard drive, from FATX to FAT32, enabling it to run on the XBOX, but I think if it were that easy it would have happened way before now, so I say this as a suggestion. tongue.gif

and perform a good amount of jiggery pokery with the hardware.

I can't somehow see the standard flavour of  XP succeeding to run on 64Mb RAM, but who knows, maybe it can be cut down that far...

Would you not be able to install it IF you are only really using it for USB driver support and using IE and outlook? No games, no programs, no installing anything else? Wondered that myself as that's all i would need it for really.

I have a 500mhz celeron laptop, and it runs on 64mb of ram, I can play games like Half life 1 and Combat flight simulator so I would use it for that, cos my laptop is on it's way out sad.gif ah well, all things come to an end, like this post, bye
