Eatrax Xwb Extractor V1.0
« on: February 12, 2005, 05:40:00 AM »

I just spent about 30 minutes using Google to try and find out how to extract music from an Xbox game because I wanted the music to Burnout 3.  Seems like it's not possible for some, but for EA games, I found a post that said they're in WMA format in _EATrax0.xwb and _Eatrax1.xwb.  Sure enough they are, so I spent a few hours writing a Windows program to rip the WMA files from the XWB file.  I don't know how to attach a file; if someone tells me, I can make the EXE and the source code available.  Uncompressed the EXE is 100 KB, source code is 445 KB.

What would be the best way to get my program distributed to the major Xbox web pages?

Hey fanstatic work. I know several ppl have been asking about this over the last few years. Hope someone can help with the track ID info.

Would be great for a xbox native (or at least a linux build for Xebian) build for someone like myself who will be away from their PC for maybe a few years travelling.

But eitherway, keep up the great work. <

I plan on writing a Python version once I get this all figured out.  I'm running Windows XP, and have Virtual PC installed so I can run Mandrake Linux. <

Hi,

I tried your utility on five games :

Metal Slug 3
Prince of Persia - Warrior Within
Tron 2.0 - Killer App
Project Zero 2
Start Wars - BattleFront

All those games have an xwb file but your utility found no wma in it.

So it seems it works only for EA Games or perhaps only for Burnout 3... sad.gif

slightly related is there a way of extracting the announcer's calls on Halo2...i'd like to have a clean sample of "Kiltacular"  for example

i can just sample it from the game speakers directly, but i was wondering if i could extract it cleanly... <

I'll take a look at those.  I only tried this on Burnout 3, so there might be a variation in how the others do it.  I called it EATrax because it was only tested on EA games with _EATrax?.xwb files; should have noted this in the readme.txt.

Well I just found out that NBA Street V3 does't use .xwb files, or at least I don't think it does. It seems as if the music is stored as .mus files. Which I don't know how to convert into mp3 or wav.

If anyone can help please let me know....
Thanx <

I renamed my program to XWB Extractor, and have a v1.1 that I'm testing.  It works on Metal Slug 3, just have to rent a few other games to try it out on. <

v1.1 will be released soon, I tested it with Metal Slug 3 and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.  Both have small XWB files, which have PCM files in them and have been successfully extracted.  PCM files are essentially WAV files without the header; there are tools out there that will convert them.

The next issue are MUS and BIG files that are present in EA games.  If anyone has info on these file formats, I can add support for them to v1.2.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to extract the car sounds from Burnout3 not the music. Is there any way to extract or convert the .awd soundfiles in Burnout3? There is a folder called sounds but they are all in .awd format. I'm assuming these are the car sounds in the game. Any ideas?
