Ive modded a few xboxes in my time but got bored of it so this time i let my mate do his.  He put a matrix in becuase he couldnt be bothered to wait for a chip and i had one spare.  When filling the lpc holes (1.1 without filled holes) the solder blobbed onto the motherboard around the lpc area.  I cleaned it up and it looked ok but for some reason when the xbox is turned on it frags.  After 2 restarts it flashes red and green and does not go anywhere.  With or without the chip it does the same, even when the chip says it is installed correctly it still frags and does not let the chip initialise.  Please help! thanks very much

Look underneath the board. Some solder may have found its way down there...

hmm, i can help but think there isnt, ive been over it with a magnifying glass and i even found a 60x microscope and had a look with that.  I  cant see anything there though.  I checked the voltage and i got the correct readings apart from pin 5 which i got 0voltes for.  I followed the trace ontop of the board backwards and tried to measure the voltage at other via's on the way but still get nothing...  any ideas much appreciated, thanks very much

do you know where is the best place to check if there is voltage on the trace?  i followed the lpc via 5 on the top of the motherboard and it went towards where the network port is but got no voltage over that end... could the voltage be coming from underneath? if so how is the best way to check the underneath?   Thanks again

hi, i had a FRAG last nite and today with my NON-solder chip... even with chip out it fragged. I removed motherboard, gave the motherboard a good blow (pursing lips whilst exhaling the air within your lungs!) as well as all the power connectors, dvd drive connectors, etc... also wiped the LPC and around the D0, and then the xbox worked like a charm...

Hope this helps

what sort of frag, did you have a 3 boot (on off on off on) and then after that cycle the light flashes red and green.  It does not respond very well and after a min or so the fan goes hyper and i have to turn it off (im assuming this is coz the motherboard (probably the mcpx) is overheating)

i had the box open and after running for like a minute it goes mad, after turning off it is too hot to touch the mcpx chip for more than a fraction of a second, i dont know if this is normal or if something has gone wrong, i assumed it was just coz there was no airflow over it

I have this same problem the xbox boots up yellow light the HD beeps.....and it shuts off ......then it turns back on automatically and the yellow light flashes and the hd beeps.............this happens one more time then it shuts off completely.........this is due to a bad matrix install........i smelt a little burning around the D0 point but i checked the continuity and everything is ok.....no traces broken or anything.......do U think it could be something to do with the LPC port??.......I even got a little brownish tint around the D0 point but it seems to be ok ........ANY IDEAS??thanks alot

You guys also might want to check the lpc capacitor. A lot of noob solderers mess that all up. I just spent all afternoon replacing capacitors and resistors on this kids xbox mobo and just now fixed it. This also could explain why you read the open on the one lead.
