Flashing A Winbond Tsop
« on: December 15, 2003, 09:59:00 AM »

The other day with zedeks help I flashed the tsop on my sons v1.4 xbox with this TSOP:
W49f020T

Zedek helped me make a disk to flash the TSOP using Eurasia boot disk. I would like the capability to flash the tsop now from evox. I inserted this into my evox INI found on this message board:

Flash = 0x01a4,"AMD - Am29F040B",0x80000
Flash = 0x01d5,"AMD - Am29F080B",0x100000
Flash = 0x01da,"AMD - Am29LV800B",0x100000
Flash = 0x015b,"AMD - Am29LV800B",0x100000
Flash = 0x378c,"AMIC - A29002",0x40000
Flash = 0x04d5,"FUJITSU - MBM29F080A",0x100000
Flash = 0xadb0,"Hynix - HY29F002",0x40000
Flash = 0xadd5,"Hynix - HY29F080",0x100000
Flash = 0xc236,"MACRONIX - MX29F022NTPC",0x40000
Flash = 0xbf61,"SST - SST49LF020",0x40000
Flash = 0x20B0,"ST - 29F002",0x40000
Flash = 0x20f1,"ST - M29F080A",0x100000
Flash = 0x89a6,"Sharp - LHF08CH1",0x100000
Flash = 0xda0b,"Winbond - W49F002U",0x40000
Flash = 0xda8c,"Winbond - W49F020",0x40000
Flash = 0x20b0,"ST - M29F002BT",0x40000;
Flash = 0x20b0,"ST M29f002BT",0x40000;

Flash = 0x015b,"AMD - Am29LV800B",0x100000
Flash = 0x01da,"AMD - Am29LV800B",0x100000
#Flash = 0x89a6,"SHARP - LH28F008SCT",0x100000,0x20,0xd0,0x10
#Flash = 0x378c,"AMIC - A29002",0x40000
Current = 0x769898e9682e1f5d065b5961460d03e6

and now when I go to flash the tsop in evox it says it will work but when it pops up with erasing it hangs and does nothing.
Scared the hell outa me...I rebooted the xbox and the bios I have on it now is still okay so it isnt even erasing.
any help on an easier way to flash this puppy would be great!

Thanks,

evox won't flash your type of chip, you have to use raincoat

No

If you already have a bios that runs unsigned code on the xbox, find the 007 hack and load the default.xbe in it from evox which should launch linux. Then use raincoat to flash the chip.

I tried the 007 hack with raincoat and it worked like a charm, took me a minute to get it figured out in telnet (Note for others, everything is case sensetive) but once I got that squared away it flashed my v1.4 with a winbond W49F020T Tsop with no trouble at all  laugh.gif
Thanks for you help Polarz

Nadnerb, Download 007savewithraincoat.zip from you know where and unpack it. FTP it to your E drive and it will place it where it needs to be.
for using this the way I did you can delete gameid.ini, readme.txt & using_raincoat.txt out of the root of E.
Now set up evox so it will boot the default.xbe in the E/UDATA/4541000d/000000000000/ directory.
remember to copy over the bios you want to flash to the E/UDATA/4541000d/000000000000/raincoat directory and rename the bios to xbox.bin
Then restart evox and fire up the default.xbe (linux) now go back to your PC and start telnet session by going to a command promt and typing in "telnet" without the quotes  smile.gif
the type in "o 192.168.0.64"
login: root
Password: xbox
then type in (case sensative) "cd ../../media/E/UDATA/4541000d/000000000000/raincoat"
Dont forget the space between the cd and the ../../ that threw me for about 15 minutes.
then type in "./raincoat -p xbox.bin"
viola it will flash your tsop with the bios you made.

The best way I figure out how to check my solder points is to buy a magnifying glass and look at them and make sure the solder is connecting both points.  I done quite a few, and doing this saves me time from having to take out the Mobo again cause the solder wasn't right.

Just so you know, the eurasia flash disk is based on raincoat so if you really wanted to, you could use DVD2xbox to copy that app off the burned disc or just ftp into your box with the cd in the drive and copy the files off the dvd to your hdd there on the xbox and set it up like an app.  You'll have to use the bios-on-a-cd method tho.

Just giving you another option wink.gif
