St M29f002bt70n1 Tsop, What Do I Flash?
« on: December 15, 2003, 08:16:00 AM »

Hello all,

I have a version 1.2 or 1.3 *no guide can say, all say can be either or*, yet it has a TSOP like the one in the version 1.0/1.1 pictured in the TSOP write bridge connect points picture in http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/tsop.php . The TSOP has a ST logo and the first line says M29F002BT70N1.

I'm trying to flash x2.4979.06_256k.bin on it. Is this the right bios to use?

My other question is: I have attempted to solder the write connections three times, yet when I go to flash, I keep getting:

Manufacturers ID 09 Device ID 00. !!Flash Not Writeable!!

I have checked my bridges with a multimeter and there is a signal between the soldered points. There is a signal between the points that the two points are traced to, too. So what gives? Could this be that this TSOP, eventhough the xbox is a 1.2/1.3 by the version guide here on xbox-scene, is the one shown in the v1.0/v1.1 picture, meaning that I have to connect the write bridges that are shown for the 1.0/1.1?

Please help... really need this resolved and I'm not going to touch the thing anymore until I hear from people with experience.. Thanks

Ok with some help looking through the boards, I found that if I added the crc checks for my TSOP chip to my evox line, I was able to get write permission in the menu. This resolved it and I was able to successfully flash 4979 onto the ST chip!

Thanks anyways.. no need for a reply.

Could you explain what you did? I have a v1.1 with the exact same problem.

Would like to know how to flash this baby.

Sheriff

Hi Metasparks,

I have the same type of Xbox as you (1.2/1.3) and the same ST-chip and was hoping for some help along the way.

So far I have the bigfonts and phoenix boot loader 1.3 running on the box but I'm going for the TSOP now.

Was it this line you added in evox.ini?
Flash = 0x20b0,"ST M29f002BT",0x40000

Will any version of Evox work to flash this chip?

Was it the 2 points in this tutorial you soldered?
http://unmodded.mine.nu/docs/FlashingTsopVer13

Anything else besides using x2.4979.06_256k.bin and checking the soldered points to be sure that the were connected before flashing?

Thanks in advance!

No need for replying because, well I did it! And it went great.

I had the same setup as Metasparks and all I did was:
* Soldered the 2 points I mentioned in my previous post and also the bottom one just to be sure. (3 in total)
* Checked that they were OK with a multimeter
* Create a directory in C/Bios
* Transfered the bios image x2.4979.06_256k.bin to the newly created directory.
* Added this line Flash = 0x20b0,"ST - 29F002",0x40000 among the others in evox.ini.
* Made a backup of hdd-key and original eeprom through ConfigMagic Final and copied them to a PC just to rescue them for eventual later use.
* Then I flashed it using evox and rebooted to verify that it worked.

Many thanks to this useful forum and the helpful people posting in it!  :D
