I would suggest getting a hold of a subscription card or just the number from someone. Then sign up for LIVE, DL'ed it, and then cancel. You have to have cable/dsl and credit card of course.

Want downloadable content?  Get Xbox Live?  Read shanafan's tutorial on how to get content without having Live (in Gamers Chat).
