The XFAT filesystem on your XBox has limits on what filenames can be. A few characters aren't allowed (like plus and comma) and names have to be fairly short (42 characters?) If you try to upload a file that has an illegal filename you get an error from the FTP server. That's probably what you're seeing.

There are a zillion crappy programs to try to rename files so they'll work on an Xbox. The one I like best is fatxrenamer.exe. I say "crappy" because they're all either slow, bloated, or don't work recursively on lots of directories.

I sure wish the ftp servers built for the xbox had a way to rename files on the fly when you're uploading them. Or failing that, a hack for the Filezilla ftp client that would rename them on upload.
