Help With Flashing Tsop On V1.4
« on: December 08, 2003, 12:28:00 AM »

Have got an xbox for my nephew for Xmas which I am looking to flash the TSOP.  Have done afew v1.0 to v1.3 before each time using Evox to flash.

The latest xbox is on packaged with Halo and Midtown Madness 3 and seems to be a V1.4 (LPC pin2 has continuity to earth.  I have put s hort across the two contacts on the top of the board near the LPC to enable writing to the bios - I understand that this is the only pair of points which need bridging and indeed checking the bottom of the board, the other two points do not seem to be there.

The bios has the following code on it:

M29f002BT

and I have the following line in the evox.ini file which I use with the 007evox hack:

Flash = 0x20b0,"ST M29f002BT",0x40000

I have the 4979 bios on the memory card and boot up to evox, but when I try to flash, I get a message saying bios not writtable.  I have double checked cross the pair of contacts to confirm they are connected to the problem is not there.  i have also searched within this forum which seems to confirm that there is only a single pair of contacts which needs to be bridged for TSOP writing on v1.4.  Some people also say that raincoat must be used but identifying that to be necessary only if other bioses are present, bot the M29 which is in my one.

Can anyone help please.  If the problem is using evox rather than raincoat, since I have never used the latter, can someone tell me how I update to raincoat 0.501 (I have the update file as well as the 007raincoat files) and also how I go about flashing with raincoat.

Many many thanks for the help.

I have the exact same problem as you. Done many other xboxes before, but some reason evox is not flashing the the "ST M29f002BT" with both contacts bridged on top.

Guess I am going to try and use raincoat...which I was using before I started using evox. I found evox much easier to use than raincoat though.

But it seems I should not have to because it is only a ST chip.

Also, one time I was doing a 1.4 and raincoat was not working for me, so I used evox instead...and it worked. So this might be vice versa.

I dont know what you are trying to say MeLv....

But, themadsinger...

I just did my xbox with raincoat and it worked. It was not my solder job. You have to use raincoat. There is a tuturial at the top of this forum on how to use raincoat. It requires more steps than evox though. Before you telnet to your xbox, just make sure you are using a "192.168.0.?" IP address with your PC and a crossover cable. If not, your router has to have a IP of 192.168.0.1 and you have to tell it to not to automaticaly asign ip addresses.

Also, you can transfer raincoat straight to the xbox you want to MOD through evoxAUF if you use a FTP program. Just erase the "evox 4541000d" and replace it with the "raincoat 4541000d". Restart the xbox and AUF. Then load the new raincoat save. It worked if you here some clakety noise.

Hopes this helps.Good Luck!

Thanks for everyone's responses.  I finally managed to find the problem.  I had only bridged one pair of contacts on the top, and on the v1.4, there are, of course, two pairs whcih each need to be shorted (found an old diagram in with some stuff showing the other).  Once I had done that, evox happily flashed the bios and the xbox is all set up with a new HDD and wrapped up ready for xmas.
